TOILET SANITATION

Over 90 million toilets have been built across rural India. So far, taking the national rural sanitation coverage to over 98%today, up from 39% in 2014. The obstacles to improving the sanitation problem in rural India include poverty, cultural prejudice, lack of awareness and a shortage of running water among others. Sixty-five percent of the rural population in India either practices open defection or has inadequate access to toilet facilities. Why toilets are important?
